COVA:Choice, Ownership, Voice, Authenticity
The COVA approach is transforming education for both teachers and students. Lessons based on the COVA model are student-centered and student-driven as opposed to teacher-centered, which results in students taking control of their own learning for a longer-lasting impact, creating significant learning environments (CSLE). There is a place for COVA at the elementary level, but it may look slightly more structured and come in the form of project-based learning, choice boards, and "Genius Hour." There is a difference between "options" and true COVA, so teachers need to carefully implement the model with fidelity based on their instructional goals.
